A media outlet to tell the story of the port of the future
We conceptualised, designed and developed PierNext, the Port of Barcelona's outreach hub on logistics and port innovation, and we have produced its content in three languages ever since.

Part of the Digital Port
PierNext was born within a broader digital project of the Port of Barcelona, the Digital Port. The port wanted to build an innovation ecosystem and spark a global debate about the future in seven areas: logistics, mobility, environment, economy, people, governance and technology.
Telling the world about a port that innovates
The Port of Barcelona needed a space of its own from which to follow the trends that are changing international trade and the blue economy, and to share them with the port community. Before designing anything, we had to decide who it was for, what it would talk about and what it had to achieve.
The brief brought together three of the port's departments, IT, Innovation and Communication, and the project had to meet the needs of all three.
Strategy, design, technology and writing
We started with strategy: research, benchmarking and analysis of the ecosystem, identification of the key audiences and definition of objectives, working hand in hand with the port's IT, Innovation and Communication teams.
In the design, each content area has its own colour, with dynamic, simple navigation and a Mediterranean feel. Dynamic charts, videos and downloadable ebooks reinforce the idea of a hub that always has something new to offer.
We built it with an essentially editorial project in mind: a simple content manager that also allows publishing from a mobile phone, which is very handy when covering events.
And we write. We listen to the sector, choose the topics, reach out to key people around the world and produce interviews, opinion pieces and articles in Spanish, Catalan and English, with dynamic infographics and our own videos. We also created and run the trilingual newsletter, ebooks and specialised publications.

A living media outlet for the port community
Every week PierNext publishes content that keeps the port community up to date on logistics and port innovation, and it is open to organisations and people who want to contribute ideas and experiences. For the Port of Barcelona, it is a way to keep an eye on what is happening around the world and share it with its community.
How it turned out.
The home page opens with a slider of featured articles, each tagged with the colours of its topic areas. The «Lo mejor de PierNext» block brings back the most-read articles in full-width cards. The Experts section introduces the voices who write for PierNext, with direct access to their articles.
Keep looking.
